Spam Musubi

Hawaiian cuisine is an eclectic mix of Polynesian, American and Japanese influences. Or so the tourist guide says. Jackie refers to it as "wonderfully quirky".

Take Spam. Spam goes with everything and goes in everything - even musubi. There is a "plate lunch" - Katsu chicken, rice and macaroni salad - which Jackie has grown somewhat fond of.

Considerably less tempting is some kind of gooey eatable substance made of mashed Taro called "laulau". It is worse than that picture you are forming in your head.
